Under broad direction, provides recommendations to optimize the drilling operation based upon the analysis and interpretation of all available LWD information.  Job role is intended to deliver well-positioning services and provide support to geology, geophysics and drilling groups from preliminary stages to post-mortem analysis. This is a field position.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Takes the provided information and ensure all data received from the customer is accurate and performs a data quality analysis
  • Correctly generates any kind of Geological model for Geosteering purposes
  • Actively participate in the proactive and dynamic well planning stage and communicate the results to the customer
  • Monitor operations and provide logging data analysis and geological interpretation resulting in modification of the well plan to make accurate and safe drilling recommendations to the customer for optimum placement.
  • Communicates recommendations internally and to Operator personnel to ensure that the objectives of geosteering optimization projects are met.
  • Responsible for leading second and third-hands personnel on standard geosteering projects ensuring the decision matrices are followed.
  • Communicates directly with the customer on resolving questions and concerns.
  • Routinely performs quality checks on geosteering interpretations and reports.
  • Creates and presents pre-well, daily and end-of-well reports to customer.
  • Participate on complex geosteering projects by presenting interpretations, recommendations and results to the customer.
  • Assists with development of new and innovative analysis methods within the discipline.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to less experienced coworkers

     

     

    Characteristics:

    Possess good communication skills, arithmetic, data entry, and recording skills, technical report writing, and proven competency in relevant computer software; flexibility to work in different locations; relevant intern/co-op experience preferred.  Expected to handle multiple tasks and meet short-term deadlines. Ensures compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations and guidelines.

     

     

    Experience:

    Previous experience in geosteering using conventional and azimuthal LWD tools, operations geology, log analysis or seismic interpretation.  Versed in geosteering software. Requires a minimum of 6 ½ years industry experience that includes a minimum of 4 years geosteering experience.

     

    Education:

    Skills acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering or other STEM degree with focus on geology.

     

    Additional preferences:

  • Advanced log analysis and petrophysics skills in using various measurements to provide advanced interpretations
  • Advanced understanding of directional drilling and well planning operations
  • Good understanding of seismic attributes in evaluation of well prospects and well planning
  • Understanding of associated geosteering methods such as biostratigraphy, palynology and geochemistry as well as survey management methods to minimize TVD and azimuthal errors
  • Advanced communication skills in presenting, writing and relationships
