ROLE

 

Job Title:              R&D Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to:      Discipline Lead – Valves & Intervention

Department:      Halliburton Completion Tools Technology – Valves & Intervention

 

Job Description:         

 

Leads and executes programs as required, by establishing project development plans and approving design documents that follow HSE processes. Provides engineering guidance, uses advanced engineering techniques, and proposes new technologies to address unique design needs. Collaborates with other engineering disciplines on standards and techniques for calculations, testing and reliability analysis on projects and processes. Develops custom equations and solutions using various engineering tools. Provides recommendations for tests results and assists with complex tests. Updates processes, procedures, and calculation tools for general use. Applies industry standards and regulations in design, testing and evaluation. Delivers innovative IP recommendations and reviews technical papers. Provides technical expertise to meet internal and external customer requirements. Promotes and contributes to a cohesive team environment and maintains open lines of communication with all levels of the organization. Represents Halliburton in professional societies in area of specialization.

Under general supervision applies functional specifications and uses engineering tools to design hardware for product changes and new development. Independently processes data, writes engineering reports, and conducts diagnosis of routine hardware malfunctions. Contributes in reliability analysis such as risk assessments and Failure Mode Effects Analysis by compiling and examining data. Identifies the testing requirement at a system level with the emphasis on complying with test standards and Halliburton’s HSE procedures. Contributes to Halliburton’s IP portfolio by preparing Invention Disclosures and recognizing ideas that have IP potential without disclosing confidential information. Coordinates with project leads to produce project deliverables by assessing input requirements and applying functional specifications. Develops relationships through excellent communication skills and acts as a key resource to provide innovative solutions. May participate in professional societies in area of specialization.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Support all aspects of mechanical new product development.
  • Evaluation and Testing of mechanical components/subassemblies at all stages of development
  • Troubleshooting of development issues
  • Carry out research into suitable components and design concepts
  • Delivering mechanical designs/analysis from concept to commercialization
  • Participate in and facilitate Mechanical Design Reviews
  • Create Test Instructions and Test Reports
  • Create Product Support Documentation
  • Maintain Project Files and facilitate project closure to agreed standards
  • Configuration management at all product levels
  • Keep current with advances in mechanical engineering
  • Creation of new Intellectual Property (IP)Maintenance:                 
  • Product Line Maintenance support.
  • Product Support to Operations & Manufacturing
  • Troubleshooting of operational issues
  • Product lifecycle improvements

Qualifications:

 

  • Skills acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline and seven years of related experience.
  • Completion of a Masters in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline is preferred. Chartered Engineer is desirable.
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas:
  • Mechanical design principles
  • Interpret results from FEA and CFD Numerical Analysis
  • Reliability Analysis covering FMEA and Design for Reliability techniques
  • Design of Intervention and Completion downhole tools

 

Experience:       

 

  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:
  • Oilfield mechanical product/system design
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Troubleshooting of mechanical system problems
  • Engineering Feasibility Studies
  • High Pressure / High Temperature testing
  • SolidWorks/AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of API 14A, API 19V and API 11D1 desirable
