About Boots and Coots

Boots & Coots, a Halliburton service line, is recognized globally as the industry leader in well control, pressure control, and well intervention services. Our specialists provide both emergency response to well incidents and proactive risk mitigation through technical assurance, training, and well control preparedness. We combine decades of field-proven expertise with advanced engineering to safeguard people, assets, and the environment.

About the Role

Under broad direction, the Well Control Specialist provides on-site consulting and operational support during well control events and high-risk drilling operations. This role combines hands-on technical execution with advanced risk management, ensuring safe, effective, and timely response to well control challenges.

The position supports both reactive operations—including blowout recovery, firefighting, and well capping—and proactive operations such as contingency planning, pressure control system design, and well integrity assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site consulting, supervision, and technical expertise during well control incidents and emergency operations.
  • Assist in planning and executing firefighting, well-killing, and blowout recovery procedures, ensuring full compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Support drilling, completion, and intervention operations requiring advanced pressure control or contingency management.
  • Conduct well control audits, risk assessments, and readiness reviews in collaboration with operators and regulatory bodies.
  • Serve as a technical advisor on specialized tools, techniques, and services used in pressure control and well intervention.
  • Interface with customers, regulators, and other agencies to ensure alignment with operational, environmental, and safety objectives.
  • Maintain and operate specialized Boots & Coots well control equipment, ensuring reliability and readiness for deployment.
  • Contribute to incident investigations and post-event analyses, identifying root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, training, and prevention within well control operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of wellsite operations experience in drilling, completion, or well intervention environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in well control, pressure control, or well integrity operations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with well control tools and systems.
  • Proven ability to operate under hazardous and high-pressure conditions, including high temperature, H₂S exposure, and complex emergency response environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with regulators, operators, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software.
  • IWCF or IADC Well Control certification preferred.

Candidates with qualifications exceeding the minimum job requirements will be considered for higher-level positions based on their experience, additional job requirements, and current business needs. Depending on their education, experience, and skill level, candidates may be eligible for a range of job opportunities, including positions ranging from Well Control Specialist II, Well Control Specialist III to Well Control Specialist IV.
