US Duncan: Marine Equipment Engineer

Halliburton Marine Engineer works in a dynamic environment that has high expectations for project execution in safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance, which requires the incumbent to demonstrate accuracy, initiative, and the ability to multi-task as essential skills. This job focuses on design, installation, packaging and engineering work for offshore equipment and associated subsystems that are used in well servicing application on marine vessels and offshore platforms

 

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Sound Mechanical Engineering skills with the ability to design individual pieces of equipment and systems including design/installation of equipment, piping systems, and structures for marine vessels and offshore platforms
  • Be able to design to various Manufacturer’s capabilities, namely DMC, shipyards, and farm-out shops
  • Ability to understand and interpret Global Marine Regulatory Agency’ rules for offshore equipment design and installation (IMO, IMDG, EEEC, ATEX, MARPOL, SOLAS)
  • Ability to understand and interpret, implement, and design to various Marine Classing Societies rules for design and installation. (American Bureau of Shipping, Det Norse Veritas, Bureau Veritas, and Lloyds of London) 
  • Assist in the building of a new ship or retrofitting of other offshore vessels to meet current requirements
  • Take responsibility for the complete technical portion of the project assigned, from assisting in putting together a budget and schedule, design for manufacturing and regulatory requirements, drawing and documentation, to overseeing construction and progress
  • Liaison with the selected vessel owner or shipyard and equipment manufacturers to determine the production schedule for the project you are allocated, make any necessary adjustments, monitor progress, and report status to management
  • Ability to stay on budget and schedule while maintaining the production of a high-quality ship, while meeting all Halliburton QHSE and operational requirements
  • Assist in the job execution and wellbeing of the people in the project team, while at remote shipyards during the construction phase

 

Job Requirements

  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering fundamentals in Statics, Dynamics, Machine Design, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics
  • Knowledge of International classing society rules (i.e., ABS, DNVGL) and standards (i.e., ISO 9001, IMO IMDG code)
  • Assume responsibility for performance and quality of drafters, vendors, shipyard labor working on their specific part of the project
  • Meets daily with the project team, to review open issues, actions required in support of cost and schedule, identifying, and tracking items which may impact cost and or schedule, while maintaining the Daily Actions Log
  • Monitors housekeeping standards and assigns areas of responsibilities, Compliance to PPE requirements, safe behavior as appropriate to Halliburton responsible work items. Works with Contractor on areas outside of responsibilities to ensure a safe working environment for all
  • Create and disseminate Post Delivery Information/Lessons Learned to the appropriate personnel allowing for real time corrections on other new construction projects
  • Practices awareness of the bigger picture while reinforcing the meticulous execution of project specific items.
  • Proficient in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Mathcad, Ansys, Excel and Access
  • Must have the ability to travel internationally while working in primitive foreign environments for extended periods. Typical travel up to 25% project base per year
  • Candidates must be flexible to travel to other offices, shipyards and offshore for extended periods when required

 

Education Requirements

  • Minimum educational requirement of a doctoral degree and zero years’ experience or a master’s degree and two or more years’ related experience or a bachelor’s degree and four or more years’ related experience. preferably within the offshore oil & gas industry. Experience with design and installation of machinery in an offshore/maritime environment.
