About the Role
The Pump Design Engineer works in a dynamic environment with high expectations for safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of high‑pressure plunger pumps and related components. You will support both new product development and modifications to existing pumping solutions to meet evolving customer and operational requirements. This position requires strong analytical capability, accuracy, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support design, development, testing, and commissioning of plunger pump systems for onshore and offshore applications.
- Develop and refine pump components—including valves, seats, plungers, power‑train elements, and sensors—to achieve performance, reliability, and safety targets.
- Conduct testing, equipment evaluations, and mechanical failure analyses, and provide technical assistance to Operations, Engineering, and Manufacturing.
- Create statistical or mathematical models and apply physics‑based modeling to drive design improvements.
- Analyze data to identify trends, relationships, and opportunities for enhanced performance.
- Interpret design specifications and support concept creation, design documentation, fatigue analysis, fabrication, and product testing.
- Perform analytical evaluations of high‑pressure plunger pump designs, including assessments for structural integrity, fluid flow, vibration, corrosion, and erosion.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, material, and job specification requirements using a system‑level approach.
- Review applicable standards, regulations, and specifications for testing and reliability and ensure correct application to projects.
- Generate innovative design ideas and recommend intellectual property opportunities when applicable.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to align analytical methods, standards, and design practices.
- Guide others in advanced engineering techniques and support development of test specifications with integrated HSE considerations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, preferably in off‑highway or upstream oil & gas applications.
- Experience with data‑driven and physics‑based modeling techniques.
- Experience with modal vibration analysis using FEA.
- Experience developing kinematic models.
- Demonstrated ability to support product testing, evaluation, and failure analysis.
- Ability to design components and assemblies that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
Preferred
- Master’s degree or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience supporting design and development of high‑pressure pumping systems or similar mechanical equipment.
Candidates who exceed minimum job requirements may be considered for higher-level roles depending on experience, additional qualifications, and business needs. Opportunities include advancement from Pump Design Engineer Senior, Pump Design Engineer Principal to Pump Design Engineer Advisor based on demonstrated competency and technical growth.
