Job Duties

The Compliance Attorney is responsible for (1) actively handling a broad range of Code of Business Conduct (COBC) investigations, including international investigations of fraud, financial wrongdoing, conflicts of interest, and alleged violations of U.S. and international laws; (2) supporting operations globally on diverse regulatory matters; and (2) independently providing international compliance advice, guidance, and training to Halliburton’s business operations. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Lead internal investigations of alleged violations of the COBC, as well as U.S. and international laws, including creating investigation plans, conducting interviews, analyzing potential evidence, reviewing financial and accounting documents, preparing investigation reports, and presenting investigative results to management. 

•    Undertake a wide range of responsibilities, primarily involving the Company’s Code of Business Conduct (COBC), including, but not limited to, the following subject-matter areas: anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), fraud, local content, conflicts of interest, financial integrity, data privacy, international trade, gifts/hospitality, and charitable and political activities. 

•    Independently advise the company on complex legal, regulatory, compliance, and policy issues related to business activities around the globe, including matters addressed in the Company’s Code of Business Conduct (COBC); the FCPA, UK Bribery Act, and similar international anti-corruption laws; and third-party risk management, among other issues. Will be expected to effectively collaborate with vendors, customers, internal clients, and outside counsel with assistance from a supervising attorney.  Oversee and perform risk-based due diligence associated with Halliburton agents and third-party vendors. 

•    Lead or participate in Compliance Reviews, compliance-focused audits of country operations.
•    Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement corrective action and improved controls. 

•    Prepare documentation in response to subpoenas, government inquiries, and other internal investigations. 
•    Analyze data to identify statistically significant compliance risk areas and trends. 

•    Track national and international developments in investigation best practices to update or modify the Company’s investigation process.

•    Plan, coordinate, and execute global initiatives to assist in managing compliance risks, including assisting in global, regional, or country specific risk assessments. 

•    Provide in-person compliance training and outreach to operational partners. 
•    The ideal candidate will be located in Houston, Texas.

REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Law degree and authorization to work as an attorney in the United States.
  • Bar member in good standing.
  • Sound legal experience and a calm, confident, and practical solutions-oriented approach.
  • Strong presentation skills and a team player mentality, with the ability to interact effectively and collaboratively at all levels in the Halliburton organization, including with internal clients, lawyers (in-house and in private practice), staff, and other professionals.
  • 15 – 20% travel expectation.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Multilingual candidates will receive enhanced consideration.
  • Experience with business transactions and contract review.
  • Experience working at a major domestic or international law firm representing multinational corporations or experience working for a multinational company.
  • Experience conducting interviews strongly preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and high degree of organization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and to handle a high-volume caseload.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
