About the Role: We are seeking a Data Engineering Lead to oversee a product-aligned “pod” of 3–4 data engineers. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and product-aligned thinking. You’ll work closely with Product Managers to understand business priorities and translate them into robust, scalable, and insightful data products.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Delivery
- Lead a team of 3–4 data engineers focused on delivering data products aligned to a specific Product Service Line (PSL)
- Own project planning, task assignment, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality data assets
- Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and help grow their technical and professional skills
- Product Collaboration
- Partner with Product Managers to understand business goals, define data requirements, and prioritize work
- Advocate for data-driven decision-making within the product team
- Technical Execution
- Design, build, and optimize modern ETL pipelines using Azure cloud technologies
- Implement data ingestion, curation, cataloging, and transformation workflows using PySpark, Python, and SQL
- Leverage Databricks for scalable data processing and advanced analytics
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and create compelling visualizations to draw insights and support decision-making
- Data Product Ownership
- Ensure the quality, discoverability, and reusability of datasets across the organization
- Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports for both internal and external stakeholders
- Innovation & Strategy
- Stay up to date with emerging cloud data technologies and recommend improvements to the current data stack
- Influence architectural decisions and contribute to long-term data platform strategy
Nice to Have
- Experience in a product-led organization or working directly with product development teams
- Familiarity with data science workflows, including statistical modeling, machine learning, or experimentation
- Background in analytics, applied statistics, or scientific computing
- Exposure to MLOps tools or hybrid data engineering/data science pipelines
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD for data workflows, or containerization (e.g., Docker)
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or mentorship capacity
- Proficiency in Python and PySpark for data engineering, analytics, and scientific computation
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Synapse, etc.) and Databricks
- Familiarity with data governance, cataloging, and schema management
- Strong experience with Power BI or other BI tools for dashboard development and report modification
- Excellent communication skills and a track record of successful collaboration with product managers or other non-technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in STEM and 6+ years of related experience is required. Master's degree or Ph.D in STEM is preferred
