About the Role

Under general supervision, the Directional Drilling Field Professional II provides on-site execution and technical support for directional drilling operations, ensuring the well is drilled accurately to target while meeting client, safety, and quality standards. This role works closely with the client representative, MWD/LWD engineers, and rig personnel to deliver reliable trajectory control, accurate surveying, and optimal BHA performance throughout the well.

This is a field-based position supporting active drilling operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site supervision of directional drilling (DD) operations, including well path projection to planned target coordinates.
  • Interpret and execute designed well plans, survey data, and drilling programs.
  • Support BHA selection, assembly, and performance, ensuring proper make-up torque, doping, handling, and toolface orientation.
  • Interface with MWD/LWD engineers to ensure BHA compatibility, operating parameters, and survey integrity.
  • Perform and verify directional survey calculations, trajectory projections, and wellbore updates using DD software.
  • Maintain accurate well profile plots and provide reliable directional data to the client representative.
  • Ensure compliance with customer surveying procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation, including:
    • Daily DD reports
    • BHA performance reports
    • Service tickets
    • Well data spreadsheets
    • Lessons learned and best practices
    • EJCS and KPI forms
  • Inspect DD equipment delivered to the wellsite and maintain records of equipment condition and dimensional data.
  • Ensure all DD equipment is properly laid out, documented, and manifested for backload at the end of the job.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and performance optimization initiatives.
  • Comply with all HSE policies, rig safety rules, and operational procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years of field experience in Directional Drilling, L/MWD, or SDL, including at least 6 months of DD experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret directional well plans, survey data, and drilling parameters.
  • Proficiency with Directional Drilling software and wellbore surveying tools.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including basic calculations, data entry, and documentation.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clients, rig crews, and internal teams.
  • Must hold required rig safety certifications as applicable.
  • Willingness to work in a field-based environment, including rotations and challenging operating conditions.
