About the Role

Th Natural Gas Treatment Engineer defines, specify, and validate fuel gas treatment solutions for natural gas fired reciprocating engines and gas turbines used in power generation applications.

This role serves as the technical authority for fuel quality, working closely with engine and turbine OEMs, EPCs, and gas treatment vendors to ensure that delivered fuel gas consistently meets OEM requirements for reliable, compliant, and efficient operation across a wide range of gas sources, including pipeline gas, associated gas, and field gas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical interface with OEMs to define and apply fuel gas specifications.
  • Translate fuel requirements into practical gas treatment solutions for project execution.
  • Evaluate natural gas composition and identify required treatment approaches.
  • Define gas treatment solutions including filtration, dehydration, acid gas removal, and dew point control.
  • Establish fuel conditioning requirements (heating, pressure regulation) to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Develop technical specifications, scopes, and datasheets to support procurement and execution.
  • Support system integration with fuel delivery, emissions control, and safety systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and technical risk assessments.
  • Validate fuel gas quality through sampling, testing, and defined acceptance criteria.
  • Support commissioning and startup to ensure compliance with OEM and project requirements.
  • Troubleshoot fuel-related performance issues impacting reliability, operability, and emissions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and field teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in natural gas treatment, fuel gas conditioning, or process engineering within power generation or oil & gas.
  • Experience working with reciprocating engines and/or gas turbines, including direct interaction with OEMs.
  • Solid understanding of how fuel gas quality impacts combustion performance, emissions, and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to interpret gas analysis data and translate findings into practical treatment solutions.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting both reciprocating engines and gas turbines (aeroderivative or heavy-duty).
  • Familiarity with OEM fuel gas specifications from major engine and turbine manufacturers.
  • Experience working with field gas, associated gas, or variable-quality gas sources.
  • Knowledge of emissions control systems (e.g., SCR) and their interaction with fuel gas quality.
  • Experience supporting projects across the full lifecycle, from design through commissioning.

Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for higher-level positions based on experience, capability, and business needs. Career progression includes Senior Natural Gas Treatment Engineer, Principal Natural Gas Treatment Engineer and Principal Natural Gas Treatment Engineer.
