Job Duties
About Landmark
Landmark, a Halliburton company, builds the software and data platforms that help the global energy industry make better decisions. Our products span subsurface interpretation, well construction planning, reservoir simulation, production optimization, and digital operations. These are tools used daily by engineers and scientists at the world’s largest energy companies and run as cloud-native SaaS platforms and as enterprise on-premises solutions.
About the Role
You are a senior developer with a designer's eye and in-depth knowledge of computer graphics. You shape 3D engineering applications and digital twins, connecting back-end data processing with real-time rendering and 3D user experience (UX) design. Drawing on extensive experience with professional CAD and 3D software, you use established interaction patterns to make navigation, selection, and manipulation efficient, helping engineers stay oriented in complex models. You work across the full stack with Unity, WebGL, Three.js, Babylon.js, and modern web frameworks, taking solutions from prototypes through to production.
What You Will Do
- Own the architecture and technical direction of the 3D component, working closely with product management and domain specialists.
- Design and build 3D and extended reality (XR) interactions for inspection, measurement, well planning, and collaboration.
- Develop processing pipelines, shaders, and reusable tools. Improve memory use, efficiency, and responsiveness with large datasets.
- Prepare and integrate CAD models, geospatial and subsurface data, point clouds, and volumetric datasets for accurate real-time visualization.
- Lead design and code reviews, strengthen testing and debugging tools, and maintain the code through successive releases.
- Evaluate and integrate AI where it improves engineering workflows, with attention to reliability, privacy, and cost.
Qualifications
- Masters’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- 20 or more years of wide-ranging experience across software development, computer graphics, and design
- Deep proficiency in Unity and C#, with experience owning and improving a substantial real-time 3D codebase
- In-depth knowledge of rendering, shading, geometry, and performance optimization, supported by hands-on 3D production experience
- Experience designing and implementing 3D and XR interactions, from user research and prototypes to testing with domain users
- Strong aesthetic judgment, including composition, lighting, materials, and visual hierarchy, applied to clear, usable engineering tools
- Experience converting and optimizing large CAD and geospatial datasets, including coordinate systems, terrain, and point clouds
- Communication skills sharp enough to explain a technical trade-off to a product manager and a design choice to a junior engineer with equal clarity
- Practical knowledge of AI tools and model integration, including the capabilities and limitations of hosted and local models
Preferred
- Experience with WebGL, Three.js or Babylon.js, TypeScript, and full-stack development with automated delivery using Git and Docker
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure automation
- Familiarity with geospatial coordinate systems and transformations, georeferencing, point clouds, and volumetric data such as voxel grids
- Experience with industrial digital twins, subsurface visualization, or collaborative VR tools.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects, or integrating open-source components at scale.
How You Work
The senior engineer who succeeds in this role thinks at the level of the system, not only the feature. You work end to end, understanding how back-end data, software architecture, real-time graphics, and user interaction affect one another. You stay hands-on from scoping through implementation and delivery. You explain technical choices clearly to developers, designers, domain experts, Product Management, and leadership, with the detail each needs to make a decision.
You bring the experience to know when a technical decision will cost the team later, the credibility to say so clearly, and the follow-through to drive it toward a better outcome. You are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and pragmatic enough to ship when the solution is sound, even if it is not perfect. You do not wait for someone to identify what needs fixing. You see it, own it, and drive it to resolution.
You stay technically sharp because you are genuinely curious, and you bring what you learn back to the team. You invest in the people around you because you understand that your long-term contribution depends on the quality of the team, not only the quality of your own code.
Why Landmark
We build small, high-ownership teams and invest in the quality of every person on them. You will work in a business where software is the product, the work you do matters, and the standards are high. Here you have the autonomy to make real technical decisions, peers strong enough to challenge you, and problems deep enough to be worth solving well. We offer competitive compensation including bonus and long-term incentive programs, a strong career path, and a role where your technical judgment shapes what gets built.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications may be acquired through technical schools or equivalent related experience. Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements will receive consideration for higher level roles given (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs. Depending on education, experience, and skill level, a variety of job opportunities might be available from the Software Engineer - Snr
