Job Duties
- Under general supervision, acts as a technical lead on projects, as required, by establishing development plans and approving design documents.
- Evaluates project risks and provides input to project leads to develop mitigation strategies. Uses engineering tools, test specifications and assessment of Health, Safety and Environment requirements during the design process.
- Uses software tools or applications to perform routine analysis to predict reliability and performance. Contributes to Halliburton's Intellectual Property portfolio by delivering innovative and commercially successful solutions.
- Creates an impactful relationship with Halliburton's technical community, customers, and vendors by proactively collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Participates in professional societies in area of specialization.
- Skills acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline and 4 years of related experience. Completion of a masters degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline is preferred.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Power Electronics Design Engineer to join our Research & Development team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, simulation, and validation of advanced power electronics systems and solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional and global teams across multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineering, to deliver high-quality products and technologies.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the R&D team, your responsibilities will include:
- Perform simulation and modeling of subsystems to evaluate and validate design concepts.
- Design and develop power converters, inverters, and related power electronic systems.
- Develop and optimize analog circuit designs.
- Select, evaluate, and validate critical power electronic components.
- Support obsolescence management activities and component lifecycle planning.
- Provide technical support during product testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive product innovation and performance improvements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through the effective use of emerging technologies and AI-enabled tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Skills & Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of electric machine modeling and control systems.
- Hands-on experience with simulation and analysis tools such as MATLAB, PLECS, and SPICE.
- Knowledge of schematic design and PCB layout methodologies.
- Understanding of DSP and microcontroller architectures, including embedded programming concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured engineering approach.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Solid fundamentals in electronics and power electronics design.
- Basic understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and thermal management principles.
- Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to work extensively in laboratory environments and with electronic hardware.
- Curiosity and openness to leveraging AI-based tools to enhance engineering productivity and innovation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Preferred Qualification
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
Minimum Qualification
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field with 2–4 years of relevant industry experience.
