R&D Senior engineering position. Minimum 10 years of experience with microcontrollers as a Hardware and/or Firmware Engineer. MS/PhD Electrical Engineering or similar discipline. Advanced english level required.

Activities and desired skills from Firwmare Engineers:

  1. Design and develop embedded firmware for downhole permanent tools
  2. Design and develop embedded firmware for Interface Systems (subsea / surface)
  3. Embedded C programming on microcontrollers, and microcontrollers including coding of interfaces to external systems as above
  4. C++ programming
  5. Setting up and developing against different toolchain(s) including but not limited to GCC, CCS, Libero, Vivado etc.
  6. Experience with configuring embedded Linux operating systems and development environment, using Buildroot, Yocto or other tools.
  7. Bootloader configuration and debugging, JTAG, SWO.
  8. Communication interfaces such as  SPI/I2C/SCI/CAN/UART
  9. Communication protocols
  10. Control algorithms for power supplies and motor drivers
  11. Understanding of how to work around processing, memory, I/O, timing,  and other limitations
  12. Using basic laboratory instruments efficiently for test and analysis during development (oscilloscope, function generator, logic analyser etc).
  13. Troubleshooting prototype and production tools at Electromechanical Systems level
  14. Preferable: FPGA programming (Verilog or VHDL), including coding of interfaces to external sensors, motor drivers, memories, communication interfaces etc.
    Simulation including Pre & Post Synthesis, Chip Layout, Timing and Power Analysis
  15. Knowledge of ARM Cortex architectures preferable

Activities and desired skills from Hardware Engineers:

  1. Design systems with electromechanical subsystems
  2. Design and develop embedded hardware for downhole tools, DFM
  3. Analyze design issues and identify solutions
  4. Focus/lead on high reliability, HT & rugged electronics, IP
  5. Lead and advise in Electrical Design Reviews
  6. Mixed signal hardware design including microcontrollers, digital signal processors, programmable logic, memory, communication interfaces, ADCs and signal conditioning circuitry
  7. Using basic laboratory instruments efficiently for test and analysis during development
  8. Switch-mode power supply design
  9. Downhole motor driver design
  10. Electronic circuit and PCB design (Altium preferred)
  11. High temperature and rugged electronics design for downhole tools preferred
  12. Electromagnetics preferred
  13. Multi-physics simulation preferred
  14. Thick-film hybrid electronics and ASIC experience preferred


Under broad direction, responsible for leading and executing complex electronic and control system projects with engineers from multiple disciplines. Serves as a technical expert by coaching and developing other employees. Implements new technologies in design of electronic systems. Establishes best practices that incorporate Reliability, Health, Safety, and Environment concepts to guide others in analysis and design. Ensures proper selection of empirical and analytical methods used in design verification. Evaluates project risks and develops risk mitigation strategies. Advises others in application of appropriate industry standards. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-disciplinary process improvement teams. Significantly contributes to Halliburton’s Intellectual Property portfolio by delivering innovative and commercially successful solutions. May be recognized as an authority both inside and outside of the company for providing advisory and consulting work for the organization. Represents Halliburton in external professional societies and conferences. Skills acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline and 10 years of related experience. Completion of a masters or doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline is preferred.
