Halliburton’s Law Department is shaping a modern, AI-enabled legal function that invests in automation to deliver fast, high-quality legal services, decisions, and outcomes at scale. The Legal Engineer sits at the center of that effort, designing and deploying technology solutions that make the department's workflows faster, smarter, and more scalable. This role sits within the Legal Automation, Operations, and Risk Management team and reports to the Sr. Director, Legal Automation, Operations, and Risk Management

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with attorneys, legal and compliance professionals, and business stakeholders to understand their workflows, identify opportunities for automation and improvement, and develop solutions that reduce cycle times, minimize risk, and improve work quality
  • Translate legal and business requirements into practical, repeatable technology solutions
  • Design, configure, and implement AI-powered and automated solutions across the full range of legal and compliance workflows, including building AI agents, and spanning use cases such as contract management and review, legal intake and matter management, compliance and regulatory processes, litigation support and eDiscovery, and knowledge management, among others
  • Lead programmatic rollout of innovative technology solutions, including stakeholder readiness assessments, phased deployment plans, and post-launch reviews to ensure consistent adoption across teams and geographies
  • Design and deliver training programs, practical guides, and ongoing skill-building initiatives that equip legal professionals to use legal technology and AI tools effectively and responsibly
  • Evaluate and pilot emerging legal technology and AI tools. Bring forward recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Contribute to AI governance for the Law Department, including supporting the development of responsible AI practices, output validation protocols, and compliance with evolving AI-related regulations and Company policies
  • Establish and track performance metrics for deployed solutions, including process efficiency gains, accuracy improvements, user adoption rates, and cost savings, to demonstrate return on investment and inform future priorities

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree required. Juris Doctor (JD) strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 2+ years of combined experience in legal technology, legal operations, process automation, or a related discipline
  • Experience implementing and configuring legal technology platforms (e.g., contract lifecycle management, matter management, document automation, eDiscovery, compliance pre-approval and report intake, or AI-enabled legal tools), with a demonstrated ability to design and deploy workflows within existing tools and frameworks and to evaluate and implement new ones as needs evolve
  • Proficiency in prompt engineering and the practical application of generative and agentic AI tools in legal workflows
  • Proven change management skills, with a track record of driving adoption of new tools and processes among legal professionals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and collaboratively at all levels in the Halliburton organization, including with internal clients, lawyers (in-house and in private practice), staff, and other professionals
  • Self-starter with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset who is comfortable building structure and operating with a high degree of autonomy

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with AI governance frameworks, responsible AI principles, or compliance with emerging AI regulations
  • Working knowledge of APIs/MCPs, system integration concepts, or scripting languages (e.g., Python) sufficient to configure workflows, connect platforms, and extend the capabilities of existing AI and automation tools
  • Project management skills
